Now let's explore Layer 3 roaming.2. Layer 3 roaming processAs with Layer 2 roaming, the goal of Layer 3 roaming is to enable clients to roam transparently. The difference is that roaming occurs on multiple controllers on different subnets. The key point is that although the controllers are on different subnets, the user does not modify the IP address. Instead, the controller sends traffic back to the initial controller through a tunnel, so this is deceptively configured to ostensibly convince the network that the user is not roaming. The two types of tunneling methods are shown below.Asymmetric tunneling: In asymmetric tunneling mode, traffic from a client is routed to its destination regardless of its source address, and the return traffic is sent to the initial controller, also known as the anchor, and then tunneled to the new controller.Symmetric tunneling: In symmetric tunneling mode, all traffic is tunneled from the client to the anchor controller, sent to the destination, then returned to the anchor controller, and finally tunneled back to the client via the external controller. Both tunnel types are discussed in detail in the following sections.
