Routers can support multiple options for achieving traffic load balancing across routes as long as the routes have been added to the routing table. The router can balance traffic in proportion to metric values, meaning that routes with lower metric values send more packets. The router can send all traffic on the route with the lowest metricroute that sends all traffic, while the other routes in the routing table are only there so that they can converge faster if the best route fails.
