The current router LMI configuration can be different from the remote router, but it must be the same as the one the operator uses on its switchthe same configuration used (LMI is used for DTE to DCE connections). If it does not receive a response from the carrier switch, it is likely because the carrier forgot to enable and configure the LMI type on the switch. As mentioned earlier, the Cisco switch generates an LMI status query message every 10 seconds; and after every five status query messages sent, a full status update query is sent.
